Essential Oil Distillation: An Introduction
Featured Review
Description
Essential oils are increasingly used as tools in the alleviation of symptoms and treatment of conditions. However, often enough there is little awareness about the way essential oils are produced, what the exact definition of essential oil is and why it is important to be precise about this subject. This seminar will start by discussing the meaning of the term essential oil, the different descriptions and available definition of essential oils, what are the differences between essential oils and other herbal products. It will then cover the different allowed method of production, distillation, and mechanical processing, and will cover the most important differences in these methods, and their consequences on the chemistry of essential oils and hydrolats. The final part will be dedicated to an overview of the emerging new technologies and on some practical advice on distillation and some myth-busting.
