What You'll Learn
- A brief history of ethics
- How to approach patient care ethically
- How to explore ethical considerations when working with patients, like those with Lyme disease
Description
In our practices, we often see patients suffering from conditions that are not well-recognized in mainstream medicine, like Lyme disease. How do we best serve these patients when there is not a consensus as to which laboratory tests and/or treatment plans to employ? How can we ethically approach their care? Do we follow our feelings? Do we follow the law? What actually is the criteria for deciding which intervention to use? Does regulatory body approval for testing or treatment inherently make something ethical? Does a lack of regulatory body approval inherently make something unethical?
Dr. Ambrose explores all of these questions and more in this course. A perfect example that illustrates these ethical considerations is Lyme disease. As such, she highlights her own personal experience and ethical exploration in treating Lyme disease and other conditions that pose similar ethical questions.
As clinicians, we have to balance the importance of our clinical expertise, the guidelines of evidence-based medicine, and our own individual values and ethics. How do we best do this? Take the course to find out more!
