Description
Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders associated with Streptococcal Infections, or (PANDAS) and Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) are autoimmune disorders that present with physiological, behavioral, and cognitive challenges. Acute onset of symptoms such as OCD, tics, anxiety, bedtime fears, inability to control urination, aggression, and deficits in learning, attention, and social interaction are among the many manifestations that result from PANDAS/PANS. These symptoms can impair the daily functioning and cognitive progress for many children.
These symptoms manifest from Strep, Lyme, Viruses, Mycoplasma and other germs, which can lead to Autoimmune Encephalitis. Thorough clinical evaluation combined with a comprehensive treatment approach that focuses on antimicrobial and immune-modulating therapy can transform PANDAS/PANS a devastating illness into a treatable condition. In this course, Nancy O’ Hara and Lindsay Wells will discuss how to effectively understand and treat PANDAS/PANS.
This course will cover the diagnostic criteria for PANDAS/PANS, along with its most common manifestations of symptoms and the demographics it tends to affect. It will examine the physical, emotional, and social effects of the disorders through clinical observations of the disorder. It will then go over the principles of treatment for PANDAS/PANS for each of the most common symptoms.
Nancy and Lindsay discuss the pharmaceuticals used to treat PANDAS/PANS by breaking down treatment methods for each symptom, like OCD, ADHD, and tics. They will also present homeopathic remedy options for these symptoms, such as antimicrobial herbs. If you are looking to expand upon your knowledge of PANDAS/PANS, this course will provide you with the tools you need to implement the treatment of PANDAS/PANS into your practice.
